RIP Chuck Yeager, Breaker of the Sound Barrier...

Chuck Yeager, the first pilot to break the sound barrier, died Monday, according to a tweet posted to his account. He was 97.

The news was shared in a message from his wife, actress Victoria Scott D'Angelo that read, "It is [with] profound sorrow, I must tell you that my life love General Chuck Yeager passed just before 9 p.m. ET. An incredible life well lived, America's greatest Pilot, & a legacy of strength, adventure & patriotism will be remembered forever."

Yeager, who was portrayed in the film The Right Stuff, became the first pilot to break the sound barrier on October 14th, 1947. (Fox News)
