Rolling Stone's Bill Wyman Inspires Geddy Lee's New TV Series

Geddy Lee says his new four-part streaming series, Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too?, grew out of his last book, 2018's Big Beautiful Book of Bass.

He was approached by Sam Dunn of Banger Films, which brought us the 2010 Rush film Beyond the Lighted Stage. Geddy says they threw some ideas around, but nothing stuck, until he remembered some of the interviews he'd done for the book, one of which was with former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman.

Though Wyman is not featured in the show, Geddy did shine the spotlight on four other bass players -- Les Claypool of Primus, Krist Novoselic of NirvanaRobert Trujillo of Metallica, and Melissa Auf der Maur of Smashing Pumpkins and Hole.

However, when it came time to go into production, Geddy says he was a little hesitant because he had to be on the other side of the camera. But, he says in the end he had a lot of fun.

Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too? is streaming now on Paramount+.
